Indigenous Student Summer Camps

 

The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) with its partners, offer a summer camp opportunity for Indigenous students.

Emerging Indigenous Scholars Summer Camp


Our main objectives are to:

  • Increase Aboriginal student participation, retention and high school graduation rates by providing a more solid foundation in Mathematics, Science and English in preparation for admission and success in post secondary institutions.
  • Expose Aboriginal students to real life working experience with faculty and other members of the University community while working in a field of their choice.
  • Help Aboriginal students to realize that the University is a place for them and to feel empowered while here.  

 

A typical day for the camp participants will go as follows:

 9:00 -  9:30 am Breakfast
 9:30 - 12:15 pm Math/English
12:15 -  1:30 pm Lunch
 1:30 -  4:00 pm Various activities including chemistry, physics, engineering, computing science, earth science, sports & recreation, cultural and special events.

Camp participants will be paid $20/day.
