PIMS' Former Director Alejandro Adem Elected to the Royal Canadian Society

PIMS wishes to congratulate former director Alejandro Adem on his election to the Royal Canadian Society. Founded in 1882, the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) comprises the Academies of Arts, Humanities and Sciences, and The College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. The RSC. recognizes excellence, advises the government and the larger society, and promotes a culture of knowledge and innovation in Canada and with other national academies around the world. Prof Adem was the PIMS director from 2008- 2015.

Alejandro Adem an internationally recognized mathematical scientist and scholar, and one of Canada’s foremost experts in the field of algebraic topology. He has made important theoretical and calculational contributions to the cohomology of groups and topological symmetries, successfully applying them to solve long-standing conjectures. Through his versatile approach, Adem has opened fertile lines of research connecting areas such as representations, homotopy theory, orbifolds, and aspects of mathematical physics." RSC Citation.
