Cristian Rios Appointed PIMS University of Calgary Site Director
The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences is pleased to welcome Dr. Cristian Rios as the new PIMS site director at the University of Calgary. His term began on January 1, 2016.
Rios received his Licenciatura en Matemáticas in the Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Santa Fe, Argentina in 1993 and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 2001. After holding a McKay Postdoctoral Fellowship at McMaster University and a Dorwart Visiting Professorship at Trinity College, Rios joined the faculty of the University of Calgary in 2006.
His research interests orbit around applications of harmonic analysis to the theory of partial differential equations and geometric measure theory, with a focus on regularity of harmonic measure, equations with infinitely degenerate ellipticity, weighted elliptic operators and applications to seismic imaging. His research collaborations span through Canada, USA, Spain and Argentina.
Rios has organized and participated in the organization of several international conferences, including BIRS and IPSW workshops and in 2015, he joined the board of directors of Foundations for the Future Charter Academy, one of Alberta’s leading charter schools.
PIMS extends its gratitude to Dr. Clifton Cunningham, the outgoing PIMS site director at the University of Calgary, for the many valuable contributions he made during his term.
