Job Posting: Director – Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences
Applications are invited for the position of DIRECTOR of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS). PIMS is a consortium of mathematical scientists at Simon Fraser University, the University of Alberta, the University of British Columbia, the University of Calgary, the University of Lethbridge, the University of Regina, the University of Saskatchewan, the University of Victoria and the University of Washington. PIMS is supported by these universities, the federal government of Canada through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the provincial governments of Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia.
The Director will have a distinguished record of scholarship in the mathematical sciences and will possess superior leadership and management skills. The Director will provide leadership at all PIMS sites for all components of the Institute's mandate:
The Director will be a member of the PIMS Scientific Review Panel, will oversee the PIMS Central Office in Vancouver, will ensure continued good relations with Canada's federal and provincial governments and their appropriate agencies and will explore new opportunities for growth with these and other agencies. The PIMS Director is expected to play a continued leadership role in PRIMA (the Pacific Rim Mathematical Association) and is also Director of the Unité Mixte Internationale of the CNRS at PIMS.
The Director must currently hold a faculty appointment at one of the PIMS member universities. He or she will be located at PIMS Central Office on the UBC Vancouver campus for the term of appointment. The date of appointment will be July 1, 2016 and the term will be three to five years renewable. Other conditions of service are to be negotiated with the candidate, their University and PIMS.
