Applications are invited for the position of Deputy Director of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), with a starting date of July 1, 2014. The successful candidate will assume a tenured position as an Associate or Full Professor of Mathematics at UBC and will be expected to serve a five year term as Deputy Director of PIMS, with the possibility of renewal. The applicant should demonstrate strong evidence of leadership and excellent communication and organizational skills; there is some preference for prior administrative experience.

 

Departmental responsibilities:
The successful applicant is expected to pursue a vigorous research program with a strong commitment to the high quality educational mission of the department and will be expected to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise graduate students.

 

Institute responsibilities:
The Deputy Director of PIMS will act as the PIMS-UBC site director and assist the PIMS Director in several aspects of her/his tasks, in particular with: the development and implementation of scientific policies; the adjudication process for educational, industrial and scientific programs; the organization of institute activities; the supervision of staff; and the preparation of grant proposals. The Deputy Director will have considerable autonomy and will serve ex-officio as a member of the PIMS Scientific Review Panel and the PIMS Board of Directors. 

 

The salary will be commensurate with experience and research record.
