PIMS Distinguished Chair named MacArthur Fellow
The MacArthur Foundation recently announced 25 new MacArthur Fellows for 2008, including Alexei Kitaev, who was a PIMS Distinguished Chair at UBC in October 2006, as part of the Collaborative Research Group on Quantum Topology sponsored by PIMS during 2005-2007.
Alexei Kitaev is a professor of theoretical physics and computer science at Caltech. Fellows were chosen for their creativity, originality, and potential to make significant future contributions. They will each receive $500,000 in no strings attached support over the next five years.
