SFU-UBC Applied Mathematics Day
Speakers
Details
The event will be a half-day event at SFU Harbour Center, featuring three speakers: Professor Giang Tran, U. Waterloo; Associate Professor Mirands Holmes-Cerfon, UBC; and Professor Jingwei Hu, U. Washington. There will also be a poster session showcasing the work of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the area.
The audience will comprise faculty, students and postdoctoral fellows in Applied Mathematics, Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing from SFU and UBC. The keynote speakers will provide a snapshot of current trends in applied and computational mathematics. The applied and computational sciences communities at SFU and UBC are amongst the largest in Canada, with complementary expertise. The field itself is vast, spanning highly theoretical topics to very data-driven modeling and high-performance simulation.
This event will serve both to find out about the state-of-the-art, and also to learn about the new research directions represented by newer colleagues in the region. Finally, this is an excellent networking opportunity for students and PDFS.
