SFU Applied & Computational Math Seminar Series: Stephanie Ross
Topic
A multimodal approach to understanding skeletal muscle mechanics in health and disease
Speakers
Details
Skeletal muscle is the motor that drives human and animal movement; however, our understanding of how muscle performs this function is limited because of challenges in directly measuring muscle deformation and force output in living beings. In this talk, I will share my previous work using continuum models of muscle and complementary experimental measures to determine the mechanisms underlying skeletal muscle function. I will then present my current research that extends on this fundamental work to probe how changes in the material properties of muscle with diseases such as stroke and cerebral palsy impact muscle function and mobility.
