2019 Workshop on Testing Gravity
Speakers
Details
Einsteins theory of General Relativity (GR) works remarkably well on Earth and inside our Solar System. However, there remain significant gaps in our understanding of gravity. One is the long-standing quest for a quantum theory of gravity. The other is the unexplained nature of Dark
Matter and Dark Energy. The workshop will provide an opportunity for theorists, experimentalist and observers to discuss new ways of testing GR and some of the alternative gravity theories, taking advantage of improving technologies and new observational windows. A wide range of topics of relevance to mathematical studies will be covered, including numerical relativity, string theory, quantum cosmology, quantum field theory and quantum gravity.
TG2019 will be the 3rd Testing Gravity conference hosted by SFU bringing together leading theorists and experts on various ways of testing laws of Gravity. The first two TG conferences, held in 2015 and 2017, were each attended by over 100 scientists from 13 and 15 countries, respectively, many of them recognized leaders in their respective fields. Both TG2015 and TG2017 were covered by regional TV, radio and newspapers. The feedback from the participants was extremely positive, encouraging us to continue the TG series.
