This workshop will focus on the two-way traffice between Geometry and Commutative Algebra. It will consist of three courses, one each on foundations, current research, and open problems in Commutative Algebra and Geometry:
Secant Varieties

Problem Session Assistant: Luke Oeding, University of California, Berkeley
Fat Points and Symbolic Powers
Instructor: Briaqn Harbourne, University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Problem Session Assistant: Susan Cooper, Central Michigan University
Differential Graded Commutative Algebra
Insturctor: Sean Sather-Wagstaff, North Dakota State University
Problem Session Assistant: Kristen Beck, University of Arizona
Course notes will be available in the future for all three sessions.
Each course will have daily lectures and problem sessions where participants come together to discuss background material, exercises, and possible research problems. The workshop will provide a focused venue for graduate students, recent Ph.D.'s, and established researchers to enrich their background on diverse aspects of the disciplines, to learn about recent developments, and to establish connections with other researchers.
This workshop is being held in conjunction with the CMS Summer Meeting June 2-4, 2012 at the University of Regina.
