2008 PIMS-CSC Seminar - 01
Topic
Waves, Vortices, and Climate Modelling
Speakers
Details
The impact of waves, both resolved and parameterized, on the general circulation of the atmosphere is essential to the upward extension of atmospheric general circulation models (GCMs) into the stratosphere and mesosphere. Such efforts have lead to a better understanding about the behaviour of basic model parameterizations such as deep cumulus convection as well as new insights into ENSO dynamics and a GCM's ability to credibly model extreme events. In this talk I will discuss these issues paying particular attention to problems that generalize across modelling centres.
