The Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Victoria is hosting their first annual CMS Math Camp this year June 27-30. The CMS Math Camps are designed to provide students in grades 9 and 10, who have demonstrated a talent for mathematics, with a variety of enrichment activities in a fun and rewarding environment. The Camps are organized annually at numerous universities across Canada and the students who attend always express great satisfaction with the experience. We hope to make our inaugural Camp a unique and rewarding experience for all the participants. See the schedule (PDF) and description of the sessions (PDF). All sessions will be held in Hickman Building, Room 116.
Participation in the Camp is by invitation only. High school teachers who have an excellent student in mind are invited to complete the nomination form and return it by mail or e-mail no later than Friday May 27th, 2011. Since space is limited, it may not be possible to invite all the nominated students. Successful applicants will be informed through their teachers by Monday June 6th, 2011.
The generous support from University of Victoria, the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) and the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) will enable us to cover the majority of the food, supplies and other costs. However, a registration fee of $50.00 will be necessary to offset some of the expense.
